if the main engine is always on fuel oil(h.o.), a recirculation line is provided back from the fuel pump in to the mixing column, or to the service tank, and specific capacity heaters are always heating the oil which is being circulated in the line....that’s how you can manage to keep main engines on fuel oil always....

1. IT PROVIDES A POSITIVE HEAD ON THE JACKET WATER PUMP
2. IT PROVIDES MAKE UP WATER FOR THE LOST WATER IN THE SYSTEM
3. IT PROVIDES FOR THE EXPANSION AND COOLING OF WATER WHICH IS COMING OUT OF THE SYSTEM AT ABOUT 85-90 DEG CEL.

THE PISTON COOLING WATER OUTLET IS KEPT AT A MAXIMUM OF 65 DEG CEL(SULZER MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDATIONS....
IF WE PROVIDE AN EXPANSION TANK FOR PISTON COOLING,THE WEIGHT OF THE MOVING PISTON INCREASES,BEACAUSE OF THE AVAILABLE HEAD ON THE PUMP,OR THE WATER FILLED PISTON....
WE NEED TO LOWER THE WEIGHT OF THE WORKING PISTON, RATHER THAN INCREASE IT...BESIDES,THERE IS REALLY NO NEED OF MAKE UP WATER FOR THE SYSTEM AND,BEING A DOUBLE BOTTOM TANK,IT MAY PROVIDE FOR EXPANSION OF THE LIQUID AS WELL...

BUT V LL HAVE A PR REGULATING VALVE IN THE FUEL SYSTEM, WHICH IS CONNECTED BETWEEN INLET MANIFOLD N RETURN MANIFOLD. ONE MORE THING U LL HAVE A NEEDLE VALVE N SLIDE VALVE IN FUEL INJECTOR.
